Rush

I’ve recently begun revisiting ideas that I was taught as a kid. Some of them were right, some neutral, and some were just wrong.

The more I think about it, there is one idea that I think is completely wrong. That is “patience is a virtue”. As a kid, people say this when they want you to sit quietly and wait for something. However, this idea seeps into your unconscious(at least it did for me) and you start applying it to everything.

I think patience(as in waiting), is one of the worst traits that one can have. Moreover, I would say it is a disease. People spend their whole lives being patient and have nothing to show for it.

Something more virtuous, and even rewarded by society is impatience. Society rewards people that get things done, and to get anything done you need to be impatient about getting it done. In a way, being impatient is the same thing as being motivated.

I would go on to say, if you are ambitious about life, be more impatient. Moreover, RUSH to get things done.

  • Have an article idea, RUSH to write it out
  • Want to build something, RUSH to build it
  • Want to learn a skill, RUSH to get started
  • Want to ask someone, RUSH before someone else does

When I want something, I can’t help but daydream about it, just a little bit. If I don’t get to it, I can stay in that dream state indefinitely. I had the idea for this article yesterday, and I’m writing it now. There are other article ideas I’ve had for 10 years, and I still haven’t written them out.

It’s important to rush towards our goals because once we achieve them we can move on with life. Either, we realize the goal isn’t what we wanted and we can pursue other goals. Or the dream is everything we wanted so we can double down and focus.

I’ve found that when I don’t rush, and I stay in the dream state, that dream becomes part of my identity. But my identity becomes weak since I haven’t accomplished my dream.

Some people take years to accomplish things that should have only taken a few weeks. But after all those years, say you accomplish your dream and you realize it isn’t what you wanted. That identity crisis can be just as bad as being a perpetual dreamer.

So RUSH to get achieve your goals in life. Time is forever fleeting, you get one life, and once you leave this planet you aren’t coming back.

Obviously, this doesn’t apply to everything, don’t rush into marriage or kids. Protect yourself at all times, use common sense and make someone’s day a little bit better today.
